Guide
How Outwego works
Outwego combines discovering the real world with game progression. Here you'll find how the app works, step by step.
01
Get started
Sign up with your email and choose a username. On first launch the app asks you a few questions about your interests and recommends your first quests based on them.
02
Pick a quest
Every quest has a title, description, tags, a difficulty (easy, medium, hard), an estimated time and an XP amount.
- Filter by tags and difficulty.
- Some quests are one-time, others you can repeat – daily, weekly, monthly or after a certain period.
- You can save a quest for later or schedule it for a specific day.
03
Complete it in the real world
Head out and experience the quest. Then mark it as completed in the app.
- Some quests require adding a photo.
- When completing, you can add a note, rate the quest or answer a reflection question.
- You decide whether to share your completion with others.
04
Collect XP and level up
You earn XP for every valid completion. The server calculates XP, so you can't earn it twice for the same one-time quest.
- Your level grows with XP.
- You unlock achievements for milestones.
- On your profile you'll find the history of completed quests.
05
Create your own quests
Got a tip for a great experience? Write it up as a quest. New quests are reviewed before they appear to others.
- Players can rate quests.
- Authors with consistently high-quality quests can earn the Trusted Creator status.
06
Play with friends
Outwego is more fun with others.
- Send friend requests and find people by username.
- Follow the activity of your friends or the whole community.
- Compare yourself with others on the leaderboard.
- Invite friends on a quest or share your experience with a link.
07
Set up your privacy
In the privacy settings you decide who sees what. Default settings:
- Profile: public
- Activity: friends
- Friends list: friends
- Completed quests: friends
- Friend requests: anyone
08
Add Outwego to your home screen
Outwego runs in your browser and you can install it as a web app.
- iPhone and iPad: in Safari tap Share and then Add to Home Screen.
- Android: in your browser open the menu and choose Add to Home screen or Install app.
